In the video, Tkachuk appears to be making disparaging remarks about Canadians, but he has since distanced himself from these words, stating, "Those words would never come out of my mouth."
The clip is a modified version of Tkachuk's speech at a news conference for the 4 Nations Face-Off, where Canadian fans booed the US national anthem. The AI-enhanced video manipulates his words to create a controversial statement.
Tkachuk, the captain of the Ottawa Senators, clarified that the video is fake, emphasizing, "It's not my voice, not my lips moving." He further explained, "I'm not in control of those accounts, and I know that's not something I would ever say."
But here's where it gets interesting: several of Tkachuk's teammates have also found themselves in hot water. During a congratulatory call from former President Donald Trump, some teammates laughed when Trump made a joke about impeachment if he didn't invite both the men's and women's teams to his State of the Union address.
