Get ready for a New Year's Eve like no other! The hotel industry is pulling out all the stops to create an unforgettable experience, but here's the catch: it's going to cost you. The price of luxury is on the rise, and hotels are betting big on premium packages to lure in guests.
As we approach the end of 2025, hotels across the globe are gearing up for a festive season like never before. From morning yoga sessions to DIY cocktail stalls and recovery brunches, they're offering a range of attractions to entice travelers. However, these celebrations come at a premium, with room tariffs soaring by 10-20% for the year-end period.
Hotel operators are reporting a significant increase in demand, especially at leisure hotspots and major urban centers. According to Madhav Sehgal, senior vice-president of Leela Palaces Hotels and Resorts, prices for their festive getaway packages have risen by a whopping 20%. He attributes this surge to a strong domestic and international traveler base, with premium events adding to the allure.
But here's where it gets controversial... While some hotels are maintaining similar rates as last year, others are introducing entirely new experiences at competitive pricing. ITC Grand Chola in Chennai, for instance, is offering a unique New Year buffet inspired by global night markets, along with an exclusive 13-course Avartana dining adventure.
The luxury chain isn't alone in its efforts. Radisson Hotel Group expects rate growth of 15-18% at destinations like Jawai, Kumbhalgarh, and Jodhpur. Nikhil Sharma, managing director and chief operating officer (South Asia), highlights a nearly 20% uptick in rates for their resort in Mamallapuram.
And this is the part most people miss... It's not just the luxury segment that's benefiting from the festive rush. Mid-scale and leisure-focused hotels are also cashing in on the demand. Sarovar Hotels, for example, has increased rates by 10% compared to last year, with destinations like Jim Corbett, Puducherry, Agra, and Jaipur experiencing strong New Year demand.
Leisure Hotels Group has also raised New Year rates by 10-12%, citing high demand for resort stays. City hotels, on the other hand, are justifying their festive pricing with recent investments, such as upgraded rooms, advanced air purification systems, and curated gourmet experiences.
The demand indicators for December are firm across the industry. Average daily room rates are up 10-12% year-on-year, according to KB Kachru, president of the Hotel Association of India. He adds, "Although we witnessed some regional softness mid-year, the industry has shown remarkable resilience and is ending 2025 on a strong note."
Travel booking platforms are also buzzing with activity. Cleartrip, for instance, has reported a two-and-a-half times increase in hotel bookings for the year-end season compared to last year. A spokesperson attributes this surge to an increase in average spends per traveler, driven by a demand for longer stays and immersive experiences.
To stand out during the crowded festive calendar, hotels are designing elaborate stay packages. Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre has added a 'recovery brunch' to help guests ease into the new year, along with extended happy hours from noon to 8 pm. "Given the holiday season and year-end travel mood, we wanted to elevate the guest experience by offering longer, more relaxed hours for them to unwind," a spokesperson explained.
