Smokin Mo’s – Fox’s AT Thru Hike – Day 78 (2026)

The Hiker's Journey: A Day of Delicious Rewards and Rocky Trails

Today, I awoke to a new day of adventure, eager to conquer the trail and eager for a hearty breakfast. My destination: Smokin Mo's, a haven for hikers seeking sustenance and solace. I arrived at the trailhead, ready to embark on a day of exploration and discovery.

The morning sun guided me as I made my way through the woods, eager to start my day. By 8:30, I was sitting on a bench outside Smokin Mo's, eagerly awaiting their opening at 11. The anticipation was palpable, and I couldn't wait to indulge in their famous breakfast sandwiches and brisket.

As the sun rose higher, I began my ascent, determined to maintain my pace and reach my destination before dark. The trail was a rollercoaster of ups and downs, with no flat stretches to cruise through. But the views were breathtaking, and I felt a sense of accomplishment as I pushed myself to the limit.

I passed Gren and Mashipacong Shelters, maintaining my pace and staying on track. The trail became rockier and steeper after passing Rutherford Shelter, but the payoff was worth the effort. I finally reached the High Point tower, a stunning sight that made the arduous climb worthwhile.

The trail then transitioned to a smoother downhill journey, and I made it to the shelter before dark, closer to 7. I was exhausted but satisfied, having conquered the day's challenges. I rushed to type this out and eat so I could get to bed by 8, ready for another day of adventure.

My day's sustenance included oatmeal for breakfast, ramen for dinner, and a light snack of fig bars. But the real treat was the Smash burger, fries, cornbread, and brisket egg and cheese sandwich at Smokin Mo's. It was a feast fit for a hiker, and I felt grateful for the opportunity to indulge.

I met a fellow hiker, Pad Thai, who shared my love for the outdoors and the journey itself. The hike is both the journey and the goal, and the scenery is an added bonus. The outdoors have always been a place of comfort and sanctuary, and I felt a sense of peace as I reflected on the day's events.

As I sat at Smokin Mo's, I felt a sense of accomplishment and gratitude for the day's experiences. The trail had tested me, but I had persevered, and the rewards were delicious. I was thankful for the opportunity to explore and discover, and I looked forward to the next day's adventures.
