But here's where it gets even more exciting: Ukie, the UK's leading games trade body, has just unveiled the 30 studios selected for its Tencent-backed Video Games Growth Programme, a game-changer for ambitious developers.
This isn't your average accelerator. Backed by both Chinese gaming giant Tencent and the UK’s Department for Business and Trade, the programme is designed to propel studios to new heights, both creatively and commercially. Think of it as a rocket booster for the next generation of game-makers.
And this is the part most people miss: the programme isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s divided into two tracks: the Accelerator, tailored for emerging studios ready to make their mark, and the Scale-up, for established companies aiming to dominate the global stage.
Launched in 2024, the programme has already proven its worth. Sir Chris Bryant, UK Minister of State for Business and Trade, puts it bluntly: “The UK’s video games sector is a powerhouse of growth, high-skilled talent, and global reach. Generating over £2 billion in GVA and outpacing the wider creative industries, it’s a jobs and export machine.”
But it’s not just about the numbers. The UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy, including the £30 million Games Growth Package, is doubling down on this success, strengthening regional hubs, nurturing new talent, and cementing the UK’s position as Europe’s gaming capital.
